Never Have I Ever – Season 4 (TV)

I am always a sucker for a teen/high school show. Comedy, drama, a mix of both, I’ll take it. More often than not, the shows are so bad that they’re entertaining (yes, I did watch Riverdale for longer than I would care to admit). But I genuinely think Never Have I Ever is a good show. It has a clear and unique identity as a show and never tries to be anything else. Even when it goes for more emotional moments or explores deeper aspects of Indian culture or does an episode or two from a different character’s perspective, it still all feels like part of the same show (I’m looking at you, Ted Lasso). It is consistently funny and moving and so cringe-worthy that I sometimes have to pause it from the second-hand embarrassment. It is really impressive how much they are able to pack into a half hour comedy.

This show has always just been such a fun and easy watch. With this being the final season, I would say I will miss it but I know I will be rewatching it again in the future. I can’t stay away from these characters for too long and it will always put a smile on my face when I need it. Yes, technically it is a teen show, but I think categorizing it that way does it a disservice. I think people of all ages can enjoy the comedy of Devi’s hijinks and the heart of her family dynamics. In the wide cannon of high school shows, this one is smart enough, funny enough, and unique enough to stand above most of the others.

P.S. Small spoiler: As much as I wanted Devi to end up with Paxton, I do think the ending ultimately makes the most sense. I’ve made my peace with it.

2023 Count: 11 seasons, 30 movies, 1 special

  1. Completely agree with everything you said. Best show, best characters, and always puts a smile on my face (no matter how hard it makes me cringe). It sounds sappy, but the ending had me sobbing. I felt like I had been through so much with these characters over the course of the 4 seasons, and it was so emotional seeing it wrap up nicely with a bow. I truly feel like everyone ended up where they were meant to be. Will miss Devi on my TV!
